This past week, we have been having lots of fun experimenting with glow water. If you are unfamiliar with how to make it you can get the recipe tutorial here. Today, we used glowing water to make an outer-space bath. Are you ready to be blown away?
HOW TO MAKE KIDS BATH WATER GLOW
Materials- Non-toxic yellow highlighters
- Glowing stars & planets
- Submersible lights
- Optional: Glowing bath paint
- A blacklight
Method
- Begin by popping the end off of a non-toxic, yellow highlighter.
- Pull the inner-soaked sponge from the tube.
- Then, hold the highlighter sponge under the water as you are filling the bath.
- In order to excrete all of the dye from the sponge you will want to squeeze it while holding the highlighter under the water stream.
- That's it! Once the bathtub is filled with the desired amount of water play can begin!
Outer Space Bath Play
Rosie and Jewel were in awe over this simple playtime! I added glow-in-the-dark stars and planets, and they were instantly transported into outer space!
I painted the bathroom wall using homemade bath paint. I also made a batch for Rosie and Jewel to paint with during bath-time.
I added a few submersible lights to the water as well. Rosie and Jewel thought they were so cool and loved chasing them!
How cool is that?? My girls absolutely LOVED this playtime!
Use Tonic Water To Make Bath Water Glow
If using highlighter water in the bath makes you uncomfortable you can also use tonic water.
Tonic water will make the bath water glow a cool blue. Tonic water is 100% edible, safe for kids, and even meant for ingestion. One two-liter added to the bath will give you insanely glowing water!
- Many readers have asked about skin irritation. The glow water did not irritate my girls skin in any way, and all of the mess washed easily down the drain after play.
- Note that this bath was just for fun. Rosie and Jewel took another bath for cleaning purposes right after playtime was over.
- If using highlighters to make your bath water glow please be sure that they are non-toxic. These are the highlighters that we used.
