It is one of our favorite ways to play, and we also love things that glow-in-the-dark. Today, I tried combining these two concepts to make glow-in-the-dark rainbow slime!
Rainbow Slime Recipe
Materials
- 2 cups of white school glue
- 1-2 cups of liquid starch
- Neon paint
- Large mixing bowls
- Neon glitter (optional)
Method
- Begin by pouring 2 cups of white school glue into a large mixing bowl.
- Begin adding liquid starch in small amounts, slowly adding more starch and mixing until the desired consistency is reached.
- We used roughly 1 cup of starch, and that gave us the perfect consistency for this batch of slime. However, the amount of liquid starch needed varies slightly each time. The key is to add the starch slowly. See our tips below if you are having trouble.
- Once the slime is formed remove it from the bowl and knead it with clean, dry hands.
- After a bit of kneading you will have the perfect batch of white slime to turn into RAINBOW Slime!
Making Rainbow Slime
- Begin by dividing your white slime into bowls, using one bowl for each color of slime that you wish to make.
- Add a squirt of neon paint to each bowl, and then mix until combined.
- Knead each color of slime for several minutes to fully mix the paint into the slime. Once well combined wash hands and knead each slime color once more.
- After a bit more kneading you will have rainbow slime!
You can add glitter at this time if desired. You can play with each color of slime separately or mix them together to make amazing rainbow slime!
My girls loved mixing the colors and had so much fun stretching and pulling the slime to make melting rainbows.
They played and played until eventually all of the colors mixed into one. Then, we tucked our slime away for another day.
Troubleshooting:
- Is your slime too sticky? Add a little more starch and knead.
- Is your slime too rubbery? OOPS! You added too much starch. No biggie. Just add a little glue to your slime and knead it in!
Tips & Storage:
- Store your slime in an airtight container between play times, and it can be used again & again!
- Liquid starch can be hard to find in stores. We gets ours online here. We buy our glue in bulk here.
- The neon paint that we use for our activities can be purchased on Amazon here.
- My kids absolutely love their blacklight flashlights! The ones that we have can be found here.
- I recommend these UV-safety glasses. My girls love wearing them, and they will protect kids eyes if (or shall we say when) they shine the blacklight flashlights at each other.
