How to Make Glowing Rainbow Spaghetti
Materials- Cooked pasta noodles
- Neon paint
- Water
- Bowls/spoons
- A blacklight
Method
- Begin by cooking the desired amount of pasta noodles as instructed on the box. You can use any type of noodle for this. Today, we used spaghetti.
- Once cooked, strain the noodles and rinse them under cold water until cool.
- Then, divide them into zip-seal bags, using one bag for each color of noodles that you wish to make.
- Add roughly 1 tablespoon of neon paint to each bag.
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of water. This just helps to coat the noodles in color while also allowing you to use less paint.
- Then, seal the bags tightly and give them to the kids to mix, shake, and knead.
- Have kids continue to mix the ingredients inside of the bags until all of the noodles are fully saturated in color.
- Then, open the bags and allow the noodles to dry for 20-30 minutes.
Glowing Spaghetti Play
- Pour your glowing spaghetti noodles into a large bin or play container, and the fun can begin!
- Rosie and Jewel were in awe over the glowing noodles and played with them for quite some time before we added any other elements to our play bin.
Extend the Fun
- Add toys, treasure, alphabet letters, buckets, diggers, glow sticks, and more!
- Have kids sort the noodles by color.
- Try painting with glowing spaghetti noodles!
- Dig for glowing worms. To do this bury glowing spaghetti in dirt, and then send kids digging!
Tips & Resources:
- Store glowing spaghetti in an air-tight container in the fridge, and it can be used for up to one week.
- For the best effect you will want to use a blacklight for this activity. You can use a blacklight fixture or these super cool uv-flashlights.
- The neon paint that we used for this activity can be purchased on Amazon here.
