I love simple recipes for play that require very little time and few ingredients. I mean, who wants to cook more anyway, right? Read on for the easy tutorial.
No Cook Play Clay Recipe
Materials
- Food coloring
- Spices
- Bowls/spoons
- Add the ingredients to a large bowl and mix until combined.
- Once mixed remove the dough from the bowl and knead it with clean, dry hands.
- If the dough is at all sticky sprinkle a bit flour on top and work it into the dough.
- After a bit of kneading and mixing you will have the perfect play clay.
Couldn't be easier, right?
Kids will surely have a blast with the clay just like this, or you can add color & scent to make different clay varieties for even more fun.
Coloring & Scenting Your Fall Play Clay
- Make the clay as instructed above.
- Divide it into balls, making one ball for each clay variety that you wish to make.
- Then, have kids mix food coloring and spice into the clay.
We used a variety of autumn spices from our pantry to scent the clay. We used:
Rosie and Jewel loved mixing the spices into the clay and were intrigued by the aromas.
- To color the clay they kneaded several drops of food coloring into each ball, mixing until the desired colors were achieved.
Add play dough tools, cookie cutters, craft stems, buttons, and other supplies. Kids are sure to find all sorts of ways to create & play!
This would be a great craft recipe to keep on hand for Thanksgiving day. Kids can make and play with the clay while you are busy doing one of my least favorite things- cooking.
