We have made melted crayon art before, but today we wanted to see if we could make it GLOW!
This art activity was so much fun! My girls got to use a hair dryer, which they loved, and the effects from the process were absolutely stunning! Read on to see how you can make amazing glowing art on canvas.
Melted Crayon Art on Canvas
Materials
Method
- Begin by peeling the wrappers off of neon glow crayons. You can skip this step and leave them on if preferred.
- Carefully hot glue the neon crayons onto a black canvas.
- You can do this across the top of the canvas, or you can allow kids to create a fun design on the canvas with the crayons.
- Allow the hot glue to dry.
Making Neon Melted Crayon Art
- Now, the fun can begin!
- Have kids use a hair dryer to melt the crayons onto the canvas.
- As the crayons melt the neon colors will swirl and blend to create amazing effects!
Extend the Fun
- Have fun and explore! Try holding the blow dryer at different angles to create different effects.
- Make several pieces of art using different patterns and colors.
- Try melted crayon art on rocks using neon crayons.
- Use neon crayons to decorate Easter eggs.
- Make candles from crayons that glow-in-the-dark.
- Make glowing crayon lip gloss.
My kids had so much fun with this and can not wait to create more glow-in-the-dark crayon art. The possibilities are endless!
A Few Tips:
- For the best effect you will want to use a blacklight for this activity. The one that we have can be found here.
- To quickly and easily remove the wrappers from crayons soak them in hot water for 15-20 minutes! The wrappers will slide right off.
