This tie-dye technique is super cool for kids to watch, and the t-shirts themselves make a great addition to their Summer wardrobe.
Glow-in-the-Dark Tie Dying for Kids
What could make tie dying even more fun? Making it glow of course! My kids had a blast making their own glow-in-the-dark shirts, and they LOVE wearing them! Are you ready to make your own?
Materials
Note: Kids will need a blacklight flashlight to make their shirts glow in the dark with any sort of intensity. Mine LOVED using the flashlights to make their shirts illuminate! We used these super cool flashlights.
Method
- Begin by having kids draw a design on their t-shirt. They can draw a traditional tie-dye type design, or they can get creative with it.
- Once they are done creating with the Sharpies give them a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol.
- Have them spray their artwork with the rubbing alcohol and then use cotton swabs to blend the colors
- After a bit of blending your child will be left with a super cool t-shirt that they made themselves!
My girls absolutely loved this activity! They couldn't wait to wear their glow-in-the-dark t-shirts, and they loved making them light up!

Note: You can get neon Sharpies in a variety of colors on Amazon here. The flashlights that we use for our glowing activities can be found here. When using a blacklight I also recommend these uv-safety glasses. My girls love wearing them, and they will protect kids eyes if (or shall we say when) they shine the lights at each other.
