Rock painting is a really fun craft that kids of all ages seem to enjoy. Today, we decided to dig into our craft supplies and make spooky Halloween rocks. Read on to see what ideas we came up with and the materials used.
Spray the painted rocks with acrylic finishing spray to protect them from the elements if desired.

We paint rocks often and happened to have a bag of craft rocks on hand. You can just as easily collect rocks from outside. If you would like to use craft rocks and don't have them the ones we used for this activity can be purchased on Amazon here.
HALLOWEEN ROCK PAINTING FOR KIDS
Materials
This simple activity was a hit with the entire family! We painted tons of Halloween rocks and really enjoyed the time together.
- Rocks
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brushes
- Cups/bowls
- Water
- Acrylic finishing spray (optional)
- Begin by taking a walk to collect rocks. Wash and dry the rocks if desired. You can also start with crafting rocks.
- Use acrylic paint to decorate & embellish the rocks.
- You will want to add the base color of paint to the rocks and allow it to fully dry before adding further embellishments such as faces and eyes.
MAKING SPOOKY STONES
- Once the base layer of paint is dry kids can transform the rocks into spooky stones!
- You may need to let certain features dry before adding final embellishments.
Didn't they turn out so cute? I think the Frankenstein rocks might just be my favorite!
